There is an abundance of retirement information available. Most of it deals with finances – from saving for retirement to investing to maximize your assets. There is some wonderful information that is offered and, while the financial aspects of retirement are extremely important, this website is not designed to be anyone’s financial advisor or source of information for the best way to save for retirement. We’ll discuss the best ways to enjoy retirement no matter what your financial picture is, but we will not be a source for investment advice. This is not the pace for that.
There are many reasons for this but the most important one is that I’m not qualified to offer financial advice and I have absolutely no interest in doing so. I do have an interest in helping you enjoy this stage in your life, so the retirement information offered here is designed to help you make the most of your retirement so that every day is enjoyed to the fullest. We do suggest that you take care of certain things if you haven’t already. The legal side of retirement is important as well and it is critical that you take care of things like having a will and health care proxies. The comforting news is that there are excellent resources available and they don’t have to be expensive. After all, you can’t really enjoy life fully if there are important things that need attention.
Once you’ve taken care of these critical needs, you should focus on the ways you can enjoy your retirement to the fullest. One of the best retirement tips I ever received was from a dear friend who said that “everyone retires to a lifestyle” whether they know it or not. Truer words were never spoked and, during your self discovery process, it’s important to keep that in mind and begin to design your life. How many years did you work where you had to adhere to someone else’s schedule and do the things they wanted you to do? Now, it’s time to take control and create your future so that you end everyday with exciting things that you wish you had more time for and realizing, with a smile, you can get to them tomorrow! Have you ever looked at a picture and wondered if it depicted a sunrise or a sunset? When you retire, the sun may have set on your working career (or, maybe not), but it’s just rising on the best time of your life!
Some of the most important retirement information we will be talk about here will be self created and the most important resource is you! Don’t worry, we’ll provide a list of other resources as well but we want to emphasize that this is, for lack of a better term, a self guided tour. This is going to be based on your interests and you can explore the topics that interest you in depth and completely ignore those subjects that don’t appeal to you now. You might want to keep in mind that, although some of the topics don’t appeal to you now, they may hold more appeal as you explore all the activities that available to you now that you don’t have a job to go to.
My wife and I love the audio guides they give you as you tour a museum or other historic site. They give you a floorplan and a suggested path but you’re free to skip around and press a number to listen to an appropriate piece of information determined by where you’re standing. Often, there is additional information on a particular aspect pertaining to the exhibit you are touring. That’s the way this website was designed. On each page you’ll find links to other information that provide more depth about the subject of discussion.
Please feel free to skip around and “drill” down if you find a subject of particular interest. Just like your retirement is a “work in progress”, so is this website. We’ll be adding more retirement information on a regular basis and we hope you’ll stay in touch and visit often. We want to be your source for retirement information. Please let us know how we’re doing in providing you with the information to design your own individual retirement lifestyle. We’ll offer places where you can provide your own “retirement tips” and let others know what you’re finding out as you continue on your own Retirement Journey.
